The Guest House

The Guest House

"This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
Some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
Who violently sweep your house
Empty of its furniture,
Still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out
For some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
Meet them at the door laughing,
And invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
Because each has been sent
As a guide from beyond."

Out on the Lake

My first boat ride this season was with Ethan and Dylan on Sunday. Ethan has a nearly silent electric motor for tooling close to the shoreline. We saw an osprey diving for fish and felt the cool spring wind on our faces; I couldn't have been happier.

Buddha #9

Buddha #9 is the largest, softest buddha, comprised of the thickest cashmere and angora head. He can take any position but can't sit up on his own, lacking a skeletal structure. I think he is a healing buddha, as he is perfect for snuggling and gives great comfort.
