Leaving Los Gatos

On Sunday, Syl gave a premature birthday celebration for Dex, so I could be there. He didn't know what all the excitement was about as we (12 people) sang Happy Birthday to him around the cake with one candle lit.

Saturday we took a hike to Castle Rock. Zach considers himself a "biggie rock climber" now.

Measuring Time by Haircuts

These birds of paradise are about to be born! They're swelling with rosiness.

Measuring time by haircuts, I have been here through three of Zach's. I took him for all of them and it has been a pleasure. I don't know why my fujifilm insists on focusing on the background instead of his face which takes up more than 50% of the photo area.

Coming upon this fallen rose, I thought how spectacular a place this is, where roses lie delicately at one's feet unexpectedly.

Zach asked if he could have it, proving that roses and chocolate (in his hands) are of equal importance.

Hanging Around with the Boys

'Twas a bit of a challenge for Zach to push Dex uphill in his Push Around Buggy. Dex THINKS he is steering.

Zach has really enjoyed the geometric puzzles from Auntie Betsy. His favorites are the train and the truck. What a surprise!

It's a little boy dream world to have heavy equipment in your yard day after day. Not a mother's dream world, mind you (lots o' mud dragged inside), but two little boys'.

Academy of Science, Golden Gate Park

Thirteen year old Alice was my constant companion at the Academy. She knows a great deal about marine biology, though her younger brother, Asa, is the resident authority at their house, the house of Ivan. This is a fun connection as I knew Ivan in Maine, though he has been in CA for ten years now.

We all loved the spotted stingray.

Albino Alligator who doesn't stand much of a chance in its natural habitat.

Jellyfish disguised as anenome

Engineer fish (for Ethan!)

Jellyfish, of course!

Roni-roo's First Haircut

Dexie was very pleasant throughout the haircut, during which time he sat on Syl's lap. We think maybe it tickled him?

We didn't even notice till the end that our next door neighbor was in the chair next to Dex! It is a Persian establishment as is our neighbor. She shows up well in some OTHER photos we have.

I carried him out on the street while his mom paid. There two older women admired him, told him he should be a model and that he had Paul Newman eyes. I was quick to point out that he had MY eyes, actually!
