Toys and Gender

Studies I've read suggest that when both toddler girls and boys are exposed to trucks and dolls, BOTH genders interact with vehicles, but only girls interact actively with dolls.

  1. When the kiddo was maybe 2, we were at my bro's house (he has 2 girls, one about the same age as my son, the other 2 years older)... so the kid puts on all the glam and glitz that the girls have and my bro freaks out. I said to him to be quiet. What kid wouldn't like those bright colors and spangly stuff? We didn't do much gender specific stuff, but sure 'nuff, the kid was making guns out of nothing before he was 4. And caffeinated knitter will talk about her boy (2 or 3?) who plays with his trucks like girls play with their dolls! And as a kid, I hardly played with dolls, but I spent hours with matchbox cars.
