Friday in San Miguel

This may well end up being my favorite photo from the trip.

Everywhere the colors are luscious, even when the houses are falling down and in acute disrepair, still ! the colors are subtle, soft, seductive.

We had planned to have a drink at the Hotel Sierra Nevada last night, but we had a meal instead. It was mouth-wateringly delicious and the surroundings were elegant.

The moon was up.

The courtyard was glorious.

Our outing for the day was to an orchid garden, the largest collection in Mexico with over 200 varieties.

This one is carniverous.

  1. So WHAT did you eat for dinner? I think that orchid is not carnivorous. ...OK... just did a quick google, no carnivorous orchids. Even though the pouch looks a bit like the leaf on the carnivorous pitcher plant. What IS cool about orchids, especially tropical ones, is their sexual reproduction methods... many have structures that look like insect (and maybe bat?) reproductive structures, AND they give off a scent like the insect's pheromones. So little buggy comes by and does his deed, and being driven by the bug equivelent of testosterone, runs off to the next willing "mate" and does it again and again, thus spreading pollen all over the place.
